Historic Building Recording
Historic Buildings form an important part of our architectural and archaeological heritage. The surveying and recording of these buildings prior to modernisation, demolition or collapse through neglect, is crucial to our understanding of the past. Many farm buildings are now being converted to dwellings, masking their original purpose and evidence of early farming practises. We also have many industrial buildings still standing, in the North West, as a testament to the importance of this region during the Industrial Revolution, especially in the textile industry. Many of these 'brownfield' sites have been earmarked for demolition or redevelopment.
The Northwest Archaeological Trust can provide the necessary training and support, along with the loan of equipment to allow Historical/Archaeological Societies and other voluntary groups, interested in our heritage, to carry out this type of recording
If you are a group or society and have a standing building that you would like to survey and record, contact us for a chat about how we can help or offer assistance with funding options
